Why America is F**ked!

So I’m cruising around some blog posts tagged McCain and Palin and I came across the following post on Rooted and Grounded.  The post talks about nothing other than the importance of the abortion issue to the upcoming election.  The world could be crumbling around us, every major financial market could be grinding to a halt, and people starving in the streets yet still there are way too many people who focus on abortion as the number one issue upon which they will base their decision about which candidate they will chose.  If you put a chimpanzee in a suit and could convince these religious fanatics that the chimp had the power to overturn Roe v Wade they would vote for him.

I posted a response asking if perhaps some of the other issues (oil, war, healthcare, education, the economy, etc.) might not be more pressing, at the moment, to the future of our country.  I checked back and this is the response to my comment:

abortion is the #1 issue facing america. our deficit won’t matter a jot when we are hit with the judgement of God because of the blood spilled on our land by abortion doctors. God hears the cry of that blood and we must plead for mercy.

no woman has a “right” to murder a life planted in her womb by God. that is secular humanism. God alone opens and closes the womb.

a life is never just a mass of cells. God knew us when we were yet being formed in our mother’s womb. a life is a life no matter how small.

Does Julia think her God is OK with all the killing going on in Iraq, or people dying because they lack access to proper medical care?

I think we should be very afraid when this kind of mindset is becoming so pervasive.

The Devil and George W

A friend sent me a recent version of an old joke..so I’m sharing.

George Bush had a heart attack and died. Obviously, he went to hell, where the devil was waiting for him.

“I’m not sure what to do,” said the devil. “You’re on my list but I have no room for you. As you definitely have to stay here, I’m going to have to let someone else go. I’ve got three folks here who weren’t quite as bad as you. I’ll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I’ll even let you decide who leaves.”
George thought that sounded pretty good, so he agreed.
The devil opened the first room and in it was Richard Nixon and a large pool of hot water. He kept diving in and climbing out, over and over. Such was his fate in hell.
“No,” George said. “I don’t think so. I’m not a good swimmer and don’t think I could stay in hot water all day.”
The devil led him to the next room. In it was Tony Blair with a sledgehammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing the hammer, swing, swing, time after time. Such was his fate in hell.
“No, I’ve got a problem with my shoulder. I would be in constant agony if all I did was break rocks all day,” commented George.
The devil opened a third door. There was Bill Clinton lying on a bed with his arms staked over his head and his legs staked in a spread-eagled pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best.
George Bush looked at this in disbelief for a while then finally said, “Yeah, I reckon I can handle this.”
The devil smiled. “Ok, Monica you’re free to go!”

I Didn’t Know Christians Could Go Naked!

I’m not a prude, and in general I don’t have a problem with the naked body, but I never got the whole nudist camp thing.  Spontaneous nudity I get, like skinny dipping, or jumping in a hot tub with friends, but nudist camps baffle me.  Having never been to one, but from accounts by friends,  documentaries, and written materials it is my understanding that these are places that exist for the sole purpose of bringing together groups of people you’d never want to see naked.  People that probably should never be naked even when they are alone seem especially attracted to these camps.

I was under the impression that the Christian position on nudity (public or otherwise) was that if God wanted people to be naked he wouldn’t have made clothes.  Imagine my surprise when I learned about the Christian Nudist Convocation (new window).  Apparently this is an annual event and there are several dates and locations, one of which is actually called Show Me Acres (new window).   Sorry to report, though, for all of you  naked Christians out there this years event is over so you’ll just have to keep your pants on till next summer.
