What Chief Justice Roberts and Obama actually said:
Roberts: “Are you prepared to take the oath, Senator?”

Obama: “I am”

Roberts: “I, Barack Hussein Obama,”
Obama: “I, Barack,”
Roberts: “do solemnly swear”
Obama: “I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear”
Roberts: “that I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully…”
Obama: “that I will execute…”
Roberts: “faithfully execute the office of president of the United States…”
Obama: “the office of president of the United States faithfully…”
Roberts: “and will, to the best of my ability,…
Obama: “and will, to the best of my ability,…
Roberts: “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,…”
Obama: “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States,…”
Roberts: “so help you God?”
Obama: “so help me God.”
Full-text of What Obama Actually Said:
“I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will execute the Office of President of the United States faithfully, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God”

From Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:
Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:–“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Notice anything?  The version of the oath in the constitution doesn’t contain the words, “so help me God”.  It also allows the president to swear or affirm and there is no mention of requiring that a bible be used.  It seems our forefathers were serious about separation of church and state, and that they refer to an oath or affirmation is a good indication that religion, the bible, or god was not a necessary part of the oath, or the person taking it.

Since the oath was administered a second time, just to be on the safe side, because a couple of words got switched, I’m thinking it should be administered yet a third time, and this time exactly as worded in the constitution.
