A friend sent this to me and I thought I’d pass it along.   Thanks to R.J. Hillhouse and The Nation.

The unprecedented involvement of private corporations in the Iraq War has been well documented. Private soldiers working for Blackwater USA, Triple Canopy and others provide security services against military-level threats, and they regularly engage in combat. But what is not generally known is that the secret side of the Iraq War and the larger “war on terror” is also conducted by private corporations, fielding private spies. The reach of these corporations has extended into the Oval Office. Corporations are heavily involved in creating the analytical products that underlie the nation’s most important and most sensitive national security document, the President’s Daily Brief (PDB). more (new window)

Will There Ever Be an End to The Bush Administration?

July 24, 2007 at 7:49 am | Posted in Bush, Cheney, crooks & liars, government, political, political rants, president, war | 12 Comments

For some time now, one of my biggest fears has been that Bush will find a way to stay in power when his term comes to an end. My boyfriend thinks I’m crazy, probably so do a lot of others who hear me express my fears that as the election draws near, some event (I don’t even want to speculate on what that might be) will be cause for Bush to declare Martial Law and suspend elections. Indefinitely.

The scenario might not play out in exactly this manner, but W’s actions certainly look like he could be heading in that direction. If this comes to pass, will his power grab be successful? It could be, and we the people (well not me personally but you know who you are) will allow it to happen. If we don’t start taking a hard look at what is happening in the White House and at least give some consideration to the possibility that things could go terribly wrong we increase the chances of that very thing happening. Too many people are taking the attitude that this cannot happen here in America. Long ago in a faraway land called Germany, an evil ruler was able to wreak the havoc (what an understatement) he did in part because people just refused to believe it could happen there.

It’s all well and good to have confidence in our “system” of checks and balances and believe that everything will work out for the best, but in case you haven’t noticed our system is broken and our checks and balances are diminishing if not disappearing completely. Is it broken beyond repair? I don’t think so, but it’s getting very close.

Good News & Bad News, The Good News is Bush Takes…

July 21, 2007 at 12:20 am | Posted in Bush, Cheney, government, political, president | 5 Comments

The good news is something many of us have fantasized about.  Tomorrow Bush will take it up the ass.  Unfortunately it won’t happen in a prison cell with a big guy named Bubba, but in a medical facility where dumbya will undergo a colonoscopy (or in his case a brain scan).  Still it’s better than nothing.

The bad news, though, is during the procedure while Bush is under anesthesia Cheney will be acting president.  Officially, not just as puppet master!

All in favor of declaring tomorrow, July 21, National Bush Bend Over Day, say AYE!

Where Did We Put That Darn 2.3 Trillion Bucks?

July 20, 2007 at 8:12 am | Posted in Bush, Cheney, crooks & liars, government, government spending, government waste, political | Leave a comment

First we can’t find weapons of mass destruction (I swear they were just here a minute ago), bunches of our civil liberties are disappearing, we can’t find a brain inside the cranium of dumbya and now this.  If anyone finds any of this stuff check and see if my keys are there, would you?

Trillions of dollars are missing from the US government. What’s going on? Where is the money? How could this happen? Where are the checks and balances? How much more has gone missing? What would happen if a corporation failed to pass an audit like this? Or a taxpayer? Who is responsible for this? Would your banks continue to handle your bank account if you behaved like this? Would your investors continue to buy your securities if you behaved like this? Learn more in the articles below. read more (new window)

It’s Like Rats Deserting a Sinking Ship

July 10, 2007 at 8:54 am | Posted in Bush, Cheney, crooks & liars, government, News, political, president, Scooter Libby, war | 3 Comments

I’m trying very hard to avoid the news because I find the situation in Washington disturbing.  Nevertheless I haven’t gone so far as to hole up in a cave, so some of it is still filtering in.  It is as if it permeates the air we breathe

Now that it looks like the shit is hitting the fan it seems as if some republicans are beginning to see the whole situation in a new light and are singing a new song.  Or could it be that they are just thinking about keeping their jobs when they’re up for re-election so they are bailing like rats deserting a sinking ship?  It’s so pathetic it’s almost laughable.
