We could take a lesson on patriotism from rich Germans, who seem to have a lot more sense and far less greed than their American counterparts.  I can already hears the distant cries of SOCIALIST from the right for what is just common human decency and a desire for the greater good.  What the Germans realize and Americans don’t seem to understand is that when a country isn’t plagued with poor, homeless, and unemployed people we all benefit in the end.  From BBC News:

A group of rich Germans has launched a petition calling for the government to make wealthy people pay higher taxes.

The group say they have more money than they need, and the extra revenue could fund economic and social programmes to aid Germany’s economic recovery.

Germany could raise 100bn euros (£91bn) if the richest people paid a 5% wealth tax for two years, they say.

The petition has 44 signatories so far, and will be presented to newly re-elected Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The group say the financial crisis is leading to an increase in unemployment, poverty and social inequality.   read more

Oh I finally get it now.  Duh!  Why didn’t you just have the baby tell us what is wrong with health care reform in the first place so we could have avoided the months of ongoing debate and moved on to something else?

During this period demons are assigned against those who participate in the rituals and festivities. These demons are automatically drawn to the fetishes that open doors for them to come into the lives of human beings. A study conducted at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance found that 45,000  deaths, each year, are associated with lack of health insurance.

On 9/11 when approximately 3,000 lives were lost in a terrorist attack we were outraged.  Where is the outrage over the 45,000 Americans who lose their lives each year.  Is it because they die quietly without 24/7 news coverage?  Is it because disease, and not terrorists, took their lives?  We should all be outraged that what is supposed to be the greatest country in the world allows its people to die in this way and be doing whatever we can to make it stop.  Instead we have a slew of people spouting all kinds of lies and using scare tactics to keep the status quo.  Why?  Is it ignorance, greed, or something else?

Nearly 45,000 annual deaths are associated with lack of health insurance, according to a new study published online today by the American Journal of Public Health. That figure is about two and a half times higher than an estimate from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2002.
The study, conducted at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance, found that uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40 percent higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts, up from a 25 percent excess death rate found in 1993.  read more

After you watch this video you might want to mosey on over to Republicans in Congress where you can read about and watch multiple videos of some of the most outrageous lies coming out of the mouths of the right that you might want to keep an airsick bag handy while you’re there.

I heard a sound byte of Pat Robertson saying that gays don’t want the right to marry, they just want to ruin the sanctity of marriage (You can see video here).  That guy is so amazing, not only is he a candidate for the Guinness Book for holding the record of the highest number of stupid things uttered out loud in public, he also possesses psychic abilities (a gift from god no doubt) to know what is in the minds of others.  Silly me, I thought the gay marriage issue was about a group of people being denied civil rights and it turns out they just want to ruin our country by getting married.

I started thinking about the irrational and ignorant fears some people have regarding gays.  Just a few:

• their agenda is to turn straight people gay – leave a comment if you have been converted from straight to gay by a gay person
• they will molest our children – straight men (or women) NEVER molest children
• if they marry it will ruin the moral fiber of our christian nation – gay couples are living together as married couples now and this has affected your life exactly how?

Then it occurred to me that the ban should not be on gay marriage but on heterosexual marriage.  It would seem, and I think statistics would prove, that the vast majority of gay people were born of straight parents (married or not).  So if the Pat Robertsons of the world want to eliminate the abomination of gays then he needs to campaign against straight marriage.

When would NOW be the time to once and for all enjoy total abundance and true wealth financial, relationally, mentally, physically and spiritually…

You really do have the power within you (regardless of what everyone else does) to create the life you desire and deserve.

So says James Arthur Ray, author of The Secret.  Ray, a new age guru claims you can attract wealth and success by putting out the right thoughts and energy.  For ten thousand bucks each, a bunch of his suckers followers participated in an event, including several hours in a large sweat lodge where several people became very ill and three, so far, have died.  The deaths are being investigated as possible homicides, though I don’t know why because according to Ray’s teachings you receive what you want by putting it out there, so to speak.  Based on that one could only assume that some of the participants in the sweat lodge were suicidal,  and others had the desire to become very ill.  And as for Ray, he apparently was concentrating on getting in big trouble with the authorities.

Ray isn’t the first one to make piles of money writing books, creating dvd’s, holding seminars, and making similar claims and probably won’t be the last.  The people that fall for follow these crooks gurus, to me, are no different than those who believe in a god.  Simply put, the bible was the first self help book and, by far, still has the biggest following.

I’m just saying.
