I’m trying very hard to avoid the news because I find the situation in Washington disturbing. Nevertheless I haven’t gone so far as to hole up in a cave, so some of it is still filtering in. It is as if it permeates the air we breathe
Now that it looks like the shit is hitting the fan it seems as if some republicans are beginning to see the whole situation in a new light and are singing a new song. Or could it be that they are just thinking about keeping their jobs when they’re up for re-election so they are bailing like rats deserting a sinking ship? It’s so pathetic it’s almost laughable.
Then he (and his administration) wouldn’t have to serve out the rest of the term?
I’m starting to wonder if Bush’s idiocy is an academy award level performance to cover up what a calculating evil bastard he really is, or are his strings being operated by the evil puppet master, Cheney. Either way commuting Libby’s sentence rather than issuing a pardon is a highly strategic move that will have the effect of keeping Libby from giving further, possibly incriminating evidence implicating Bush in illegal activities. As long as Libby’s sentence is on record, and is in the appeals process he can remain silent, however, had he been pardoned he would be required to testify before a grand jury (or other investigative body), could not plead the fifth, and any refusal to cooperate would cause him to be held in comtempt.
Scooter got off easy thanks to dumbya, big freakin’ surprise! Oh but he has a hefty fine (yeah if you’re poor) and his professional reputation will be forever damaged. C’mon really now, how seriously can we take someone named Scooter anyway.?
