A Word About Drinking and Driving

December 15, 2011 at 12:21 pm | Posted in Atheism | 1 Comment

A Warning: Careful with that holiday cheer….

I would like to share an experience with you all; it’s about drinking and
driving.

As you well know, some folks have been known to have brushes with the
authorities on their way home from the odd social occasion over the years.
You may know one of these folks, or you might even be one of them.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few pre-Christmas drinks with some
friends; I’m afraid I had a few too many glasses of wine, along with some
rather nice claret.  Strongly suspecting that I could have been slightly
over the limit, I did something I’ve never done before: I took a bus home!

It was actually a fine ride.  I’ll admit, though, it was a relief to arrive
home safely and without incident.  It was the first time I’d ever driven a
bus-and I’m still not sure where I got that one.

Ebenezer Scrooge

When they ask the questions, every year, I sense some apprehension; as if my answers will have an impact on what is to follow.  If only that were so.  My answers are NO, NO, and I DON’T DO THAT.

The first question concerns my state of readiness for christmas*?  Depending on my mood I either inform the inquirer I don’t celebrate christmas or I say NO, and ask if christmas will not come unless I’m ready.  In my fantasy I have this power.

The next questions involve my level of excitement about the impending holidays and whether or not I have all my christmas shopping done, because isn’t christmas really about shopping?  (I hate shopping of any kind at any time of year.  I try to stock up on my needs before Thanksgiving hoping to avoid the chaotic crowds of sheep at the market until at least the second week in January.)

I hate holidays, all of them, but I hate christmas most of all.  Bah Humbug!

Ron Paul campaign getting more bang for YOUR bucks

When I received my change at the store the other day I noticed one of the dollar bills had something stamped in red.  Being pretty sure it’s illegal to deface currency I looked it up and according to Wiki Answers it is, but as suspected rarely enforced.  Just because it’s not enforced does that make it OK to commit a crime?  Considering what was stamped on the dollar I found this item in my search particularly interesting.

Of course there is no proof that Ron Paul is behind these dollar bill ads, but I suspect he might be.  Wouldn’t this criminal activity give him an unfair advantage?  Hell, why should any of us pay for advertising for our services, let’s just follow Paul’s example and use U.S. currency to circulate our messages.

This dollar isn’t going back into circulation..the buck stops here and that jackass Ron Paul owes me a dollar.

What becomes of children raised by same sex parents?

As demonstrated by the video below, children raised by same sex couples develop horns, spend years in therapy, are troublesome in schools, commit crimes against society and often end up institutionalized with taxpayer footing the bill.  But seriously, as I remove my tongue from my cheek and stop masquerading as a wingnut, I offer the following:

Zach Wahls, a 19-year-old University of Iowa student spoke about the strength of his family during a public forum on House Joint Resolution 6 in the Iowa House of Representatives. Wahls has two mothers, and came to oppose House Joint Resolution 6 which would end civil unions in Iowa.

The fight to to keep marriage equality in Iowa continues, help us support Iowans like Zach.
