N. Dakota House says Fertilized Egg is a Person
February 21, 2009 at 12:41 am | In I'm just saying, Religion, abortion, god, pro-choice | 4 CommentsTags: homo sapien genome, human genome, zygote
Here we go again. The North Dakota house approved a measure that gives a fertilized human egg the same legal rights as a human being. With rights come responsibilities, so I say the little zygotes stop being parasites living off the uterine walls of their hosts and start pulling their own weight. Do some chores, get a paper route for crying out loud.
BISMARCK, N.D. – A measure approved by the North Dakota House gives a fertilized human egg the legal rights of a human being, a step that would essentially ban abortion in the state
You know this is all about religious dogma being imposed upon those who happen to believe a woman has the right to chose. The author of the bill is, of course, a male (aren’t they always). Except for the guy who had a baby, but was able to do so only because he’d had a sex change and still had a uterus I don’t think men have any say in whether a woman can be forced to use her body as a host to an organism that cannot live on its own.
I’m not advocating abortion, and I don’t think it is an easy decision for any woman to make. However, the decision belongs to the woman, not men, not the government, and certainly not religious leaders. And isn’t this, after all, about religion?
The bill declares that “any organism with the genome of homo sapiens” is a person protected by rights granted by the North Dakota Constitution and state laws. read more
This wording creates a slippery slope. When we cut our hair or nails, exfoliate our skin, blow our noses, relieve our bodies of waste, or any other bodily fluids isn’t it possible they contain organisms with the homo- sapien genome? Then does each of these functions constitute the murder of a “person”. Yes, I may be taking this to the ridiculous, but I’m just saying…

Wow! Woman have it so easy! You don’t even have to think for yourselves! Us men, well, the pressures on us to make the right decisions for you! It’s a good thing God made us so much better!
(I shouldn’t have to footnote this, but don’t take that literal).

Medical and technology advances are bring us decisions once reserved only for God. Instead of working on new ethics, the religious mind relies on rehashed superficial analysis, instead of digging deeper for the concepts that will help all to recognize when a fertilized egg is to be protected or when it’s just material on a petri dish.
Instead of being able to recognize death on life support (Shivo), they want us all to return to the time when only God made decisions.
and you wonder why they don’t have any common sense.
