I Didn’t Know Christians Could Go Naked!

I’m not a prude, and in general I don’t have a problem with the naked body, but I never got the whole nudist camp thing. Spontaneous nudity I get, like skinny dipping, or jumping in a hot tub with friends, but nudist camps baffle me. Having never been to one, but from accounts by friends, documentaries, and written materials it is my understanding that these are places that exist for the sole purpose of bringing together groups of people you’d never want to see naked. People that probably should never be naked even when they are alone seem especially attracted to these camps.
I was under the impression that the Christian position on nudity (public or otherwise) was that if God wanted people to be naked he wouldn’t have made clothes. Imagine my surprise when I learned about the Christian Nudist Convocation (new window). Apparently this is an annual event and there are several dates and locations, one of which is actually called Show Me Acres (new window). Sorry to report, though, for all of you naked Christians out there this years event is over so you’ll just have to keep your pants on till next summer.

There is Biblical support for this:
1 Samuel 19:23-24 So [Saul] went there to Naioth in Ramah. Then the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. And he also stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
Isaiah 20:2-3a At the same time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and remove the sackcloth from your body, and take your sandals off your feet.” And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. Then the LORD said, “Just as My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder….

Actually I have yet to see any clothes being sold under the God label. Clothes were invented by man!

I do think that we are to be modest, and unfortunately that should probably require clothing. IMO Adam and Eve RUINED IT for everybody! LOL!
BUT~let’s say that there is a tribe in a hot climate accustomed to not wearing clothes, and someone becomes a Chritian. I cannot judge that~I think that modesty would probably be more about how then a woman might carry herself…. (((((HUGS))))) sandi

Fascinating! This certainly drifts from traditional Christian modesty.
As with most naturists, they have as much capacity for respect, kindness, and ethics as any person. And, there may be some need to seek out people who are like-minded.
So, why wouldn’t they practice any form of faith, even Christianity?

We dont understand all this. The purpose of nudist “camps” is, that societies in general are pretty clamped up about nudity. So you can’t do it in public, hence the “camps”.
What’s the big deal? If you’d grow up with nudity around you, you wouldn’t take such notice in it.
Ugly people ar ugly people, clothes or not.
And most people just do not look like the nudes one knows from magazines, or films, or, oh wait - we are in America. So one here wouldn’t know any nudes, right?
Go fly to Berlin in the summer and take a stroll through the Tiergarten to see how normal nudity is.
And for the Christians: nudity has nothing to do with respect for one another and kindness towards others and “love thy neighbor” - that IS what Christianity means, right?

Oh my. I just had link-out fun and learning. The Adamites! This post and the comments are great. I used to live near New River Arizona where they’ve had a nudist camp for over 40 years. You can go and get a tour. You enter the main office that has a very high counter so you can’t really see anyone. They’re very friendly. Then the gal, with her breasts hanging down to her knees and the guy with belly hanging over his penis, wave you into a golf cart so they can bounce you and their various body parts along the desert path. “There’s the pool. And there’s the tennis courts.” She wears a big floppy hat for sun protection and he wears sandals with socks. I used to run into a gang of them at the local bar. They were hilarious (and clothed for dancing). One gal had a birthday and they made a cake for her that looked like a clock. At each hour mark was a Polaroid of somebody’s penis. She had to guess whose was whose before she could get a piece…of cake.
I was taught that there is nudist etiquette - when you are at the camp or at someone’s home, bring a towel to sit on. It’s not polite to leave any, well, evidence of your presence.
I’m glad The Cat Realm sent me here.
